Astonishing, right? Well, archaeologists and historians have traced the roots of the Indian beauty industry to 2500 BC through ancient texts and scriptures. Over the years, the definition of beauty and the industry itself have evolved. Founded in 1967, it was a novel creation! Professional beauty products became much more accessible to the common people. “My grandfather started by supplying essential salon consumables like hair clips to makeup artists and beauticians, building trusted relationships within the professional communities,” quoted Vidur Kapur, the second generation of O3+ Professional. He further explains, “The story of O3+ began with a vision that dates back to 1967, when India was witnessing the early rise of homegrown salons and a cultural boom through Bollywood. “O3+ was launched in 2005 by my father, Mr. Vineet Kapur, to provide high-performing skincare solutions for salons. We’ve always stood for education, innovation, and business growth—and we’ve stayed committed to clean, responsible beauty,” expressed Vidur Kapur, the Director of O3+ Professional Skincare. Thus, out of curiosity, Local Samosa asked Vidur Kapur, “What were a few challenges you faced while starting?” To which he replied, “In the early days, building O3+ from the ground up came with its fair share of challenges. As a fully bootstrapped brand, one of the biggest hurdles was managing growth without external funding, which meant every step had to be calculated and sustainable.”
Gaining the trust of salon professionals was a major challenge, especially in a market that wasn’t yet familiar with high-tech, professional skincare solutions, claims Kapur. He further adds, “There were also difficulties in formulating products that could cater to diverse Indian skin types and concerns.” However, O3+ decided to choose beauticians—not celebrities—as the face of the brand. The main motive for this was a commitment to quality and innovation, and O3+ gradually overcame these obstacles, laying the foundation for long-term success.

Starting a brand or a business is not as easy as it seems. It comes with its challenges and responsibilities. Thus, we asked Vidur Kapur, “How has the brand changed or grown over the years?”, to which he replied, “Over the years, O3+ has evolved from a salon-focused skincare brand into a powerful, multi-brand beauty enterprise with a strong presence across both professional and consumer markets. What began in 2005 as a dermal zone range for salons has grown into an umbrella of eight specialised brands, each addressing unique skincare and haircare needs—from anti-ageing facials with Agelock to K-beauty inspired products with Plunge Glow.
He further expressed, “The brand has consistently embraced innovation, launched tech-led solutions and expanded into direct-to-consumer platforms to reach a wider audience. Despite its rapid growth, O3+ has remained committed to its core values of sustainability, professional empowerment, and cruelty-free formulations. Today, it stands as a pioneer in the Indian skincare industry, trusted by professionals and consumers alike.”

It began with a focus on providing high-quality products specifically for salons, understanding the needs of beauticians and their clients.” Over time, the brand recognised the opportunity to reach a wider audience by creating skincare products for everyday consumers, not just professionals. We also do not test our products on animals, so they are cruelty-free. Our packaging is designed to be environmentally friendly whenever possible. We believe in creating skincare that is good for both people and the planet.”
Lastly, as we conclude, we inquired of the director, “Where do you see this industry going in India?” to which he replied, “In India, the skincare industry is growing rapidly and will continue to expand. More people are becoming aware of taking care of their skin and seeking high-quality, safe products. Natural and eco-friendly skincare will gain even more popularity. Technology and science will enhance the creation of better products that cater to different skin types. Additionally, online shopping and social media will significantly influence how people discover and purchase skincare.
