The Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayaraj is witnessing a surge of devotees and brands. While the former is an ordinary tale during the largest religious gathering, the latter is making waves this Kumbh Mela. Many brands are launching campaigns and collaborating with the government and the Maha Kumbh Mela Trust to elevate visitors' experiences. As this religious congregation goes greener this year, it has partnered with CHUK, a 100% compostable tableware brand, to serve meals to millions of devotees in sustainable tableware.
This means that CHUK has been selected as the official tableware supplier for the Maha Kumbh Mela 2025. “Through this partnership, we are meeting the event's extensive catering requirements by providing eco-friendly compostable tableware, aligning with the UP government’s RACE initiative to reduce plastic waste and promote sustainability," says Jagdeep Hira, India Business Head at Pakka Limited, the parent company of CHUK in an interaction with Local Samosa. All the tableware like plates, bowls, and cutlery made from sustainable bagasse, a fibrous residue left over after sugarcane or sorghum stalks, will be exclusively used for serving at partner restaurants of Kumbh Mela.
This partnership began when CHUK approached the MahaKumbh Mela governing body to pitch its eco-friendly products. “After which, we were selected as the L1 (most preferred) vendor through a standard government tender process,” mentions Jagdeep. Being part of the Maha Kumbh Mela was both an honour and a tremendous responsibility for the team, as the brand had to cater to an event of such a massive magnitude. “Such occasions present logistical and operational challenges, but having previously supported large religious centres such as the Ram Mandir and Vaishno Devi, we have the experience of delivering at the right pace,” adds the India Business Head.
One of CHUK's biggest advantages is its strategically located production facility near Ayodhya, which ensures the timely delivery of products. This proximity, coupled with robust planning and operational agility, allows the brand to seamlessly cater to the event’s requirements. To meet the demands, CHUK is also leveraging its manufacturing agility and strong inventory management.

Participating in a once-in-a-lifetime event, that too, when spiritual tourism is on the rise in India, can be a game changer for brands. CHUK sees this as an opportunity to extend its purpose of enabling responsible practices to citizens on a large scale. “For us, it’s not just about serving an event; it’s about contributing to a cleaner environment for all. We’re truly grateful for the trust placed by the Maha Kumbh Mela Trust to enable us to play a part in this monumental gathering,” concludes Jagdeep.
