Till now, you all know about the floating parks, gardens, and floating houseboats, but have you ever thought there would be a floating post office?
Everyone has been to a post office at least once in their lives (If not, you should!). You would be surprised to know that there is a post office in Kashmir that is unlike any other post office. Kashmir flaunts the only floating post office in the blue waters of Dal Lake and despite other communication methods available, this post office has always been busier.
This two-room architectural post office has been in service for the last two centuries. It delivers posts and couriers to people who live on the lake (in houseboats). The postman does the deliveries with Shikaras (a wooden boat). There is no compromise on the services one gets in a post office; everything is available while being afloat. The posted letters carry the picturesque landscape of the lake, and it delivers 100-150 letters daily, including to the CRPF base camp.
Get the old-school charm of hand-written letters with the floating post office
Although this service is used by fewer people and is time-consuming, the charm of letter-writing still attracts everyone. Thousands of tourists rush to this post office to get pictures clicked and have a one-of-its-kind experience every year.

Enrich your stamp collection
Stamp collectors from all over the world come here to enhance their collections with the special stamps of this post office. The posted stamps have cancellations stamps on them to prevent them from getting reused. You will find a vast range of covers, stamps, and cards to choose from! The post office once had a room converted into a museum to preserve old stamps, but it was destroyed in the 2014 flood. But there's still a lot more that you can witness here.
Next time you visit Srinagar, don’t forget to get canceled (pun intended) by the floating post office, as the post office has also been featured in many Bollywood movies.
