1. Cyclone Asani expected in Andaman and Nicobar Islands
After the Andaman and Nicobar Islands received heavy rainfall on March 20, the Army and rescuers are on alert and are ready to move the residents of low-lying areas to safer places. The cyclone is likely to pass from the Islands on March 21, Monday. Along with this, ships, aircraft, helicopters, diving, and disaster relief teams are also on standby to control the situation.
2. Kerala man wins international award in photography in UAE
Tittu Sazi Thomas, who hails from Mannar in Kerala, has been awarded the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid AI Maktoum International Photography Award by the UAE government. The award also comes with a prize of 50,000 Dirhams, which amount to Rs 10 lakh. Thomas has been selected from amongst 2,176 contestants from 89 countries.
3. Government to develop Made-In-India smartphone OS
The Indian government is all set to develop Made-In-India Operating System for smartphones. The major aim behind this move, as stated by Minister of State For Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, is to create an alternative to Android and iOS. Moreover, the OS will also be exported outside the country.
4. Maharashtra on alert as COVID-19 cases are on rising in other countries
As Omicron BA.2 sees a surge in parts of Europe and Asia, the Central government has asked Maharashtra to be on alert owing to the state being one of the most affected in previous waves. The Health Minister of Maharashtra has stated that the state has received a letter for the same and has urged the citizen to follow the COVID-appropriate behaviour.
5. India’s first rapid rail unveiled
India has got its first rapid rail between Delhi and Meerut, the inauguration of which was done by the National Capital Regional Transport Corporation (NCRTC) on previous Wednesday. The Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) train will move between Delhi and Meerut via Ghaziabad in just 55 minutes.
