Mehul hails from Rajkot and used to be a music teacher in Rashtriya Shala and Sarvodaya School, but lost his job during the lockdown. Meanwhile, his father tested positive with COVID-19 and was admitted to Rajkot’s Samras Hostel. Mehul joined the Samras Hostel as an attendant and would cheer his father by singing and playing guitar. During an inspection at the hostel, Charansinh Gohil, SDM of Rajkot saw him playing and asked him to do music therapy for other COVID-affected patients too.
