This village in Karnataka followed the COVID-19 protocols and ensured social distancing to reduce the caseload to zero. Check how they achieved this milestone.
When almost every part of the country is dealing with a maximum number of Coronavirus cases, a village in Karnataka has set an example by reducing its cases to zero.
A gram panchayat in remote Yellapur taluk, Mavina Mane, which has just seven villages, achieved the milestone by adhering to the lockdown norms.
The village has a total of 500 houses where nearly 108 people were infected in the second wave. Presently, 100 people have already recovered and 8 are recovering.
The infection had begun with 15 people showing symptoms on April 19 after attending a wedding in Malavalli village. However, unlike other places, the panchayat soon took the responsibility and formed a task force with their people.
The first and foremost thing done by the task force was to ensure that several check posts were set up to prevent people from taking out their vehicles. They also ensured that no outsider could come to the village unless an emergency.
Apart from that, a cooperative society, The Mavina Mane Sahakara Sea Sangha, along with a few donors supplied groceries and other essential commodities to the households. The PDOs, health department staff ensured that medical aid was supplied to them.
Moreover, the Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and some health department staff did not miss out on paying regular visits to the houses. Then, almost every day, checked oxygen levels, temperatures, and COVID-related symptoms in people.
With all these precautions and safety, the village is now Corona-free!
