The Railways plan to run 'Oxygen Express' trains, by sending empty tankers to Vizag, Jamshedpur, Rourkela, and Bokaro for loading medical oxygen.
With the surge in Coronavirus cases in India again, the demand for oxygen in the country is also rising. To meet this unavoidable demand, the Railways is planning to run 'Oxygen Express' trains over the next few days.
The trains will act as transporters for liquid medical oxygen (LMO) and oxygen cylinders. The move has come after the government of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra reached out to Railways for the same.
'Oxygen Express' trains in coming days
The process will begin on April 19 where empty tankers will start from Kalamboli and Boisar railway stations. These tankers will, then, load liquid medical oxygen from Vizag, Jamshedpur, Rourkela, and Bokaro.
In the next few days, the operations of oxygen trains will start to the needful places. A green corridor is also being created for the smooth movement of the trains.
For the loading of LMO and cylinders, zonal railways have also received instructions. And, as per the tentative plan, 10 empty tankers will be dispatched on April 19.
Apart from this, the government has exempted the oxygen tankers from the registration of permits to ensure fast movement. Cylinder filling plants will also be allowed to function round the clock with precautions.
