Now, you no longer need to worry about the unfair practices of Taxi drivers in Goa when it comes to telling you the cost of a certain travel distance. The government has ruled out that all taxis in Goa will have digital fare meters, GPS and a panic button.
The State Transport Minister, Mauvin Godinho, informed about the move in the written form in Goa Assembly on Friday.
The government has amended Section 140 of the Goa Motor Vehicles Rules-1991. As the amendment is done, all motor cabs will be fitted with a digital fare meter along with a printer, Global Positioning System (GPS), and a panic button. The Ministry is expecting to complete the work within six months.
As of now, Goa has 674 yellow/black taxis with 14,575 all India taxis with the permit to go out of Goa. The state also has 2,593 all Goa taxis and 2,250 app-based taxis.
Apart from that, 1,246 motorcycle taxis are also operating in Goa.
Indeed, a good step!
