Corbett Tiger Reserve to witness women drivers and guides soon

To ensure women's participation, the government is all set to provide training to women and deploy them as drivers and nature guides at Corbett Tiger Reserve.

Wildlife tourism activities in Uttarakhand, which is presently dominated by men as Gypsy drivers and nature guides, will soon encounter the participation of women at Corbett Tiger Reserve from the next tourism season.

The state forest minister, Harak Singh Rawat, announced the deployment of women at an event on Sunday. The event marked the International Day of Forest.

The forest department will deploy 50 women nature guides and 50 women Gypsy drivers after training them.

For this, the government is planning to take people from the villages as they are well versed in protecting forests.

At present, there are only men nature guides at Corbett with a total number being 105. Through the initiative, the government is aiming to train 10,000 youth of which 5,000 will be women.

After the training, the women will work as 'van prahari' in the area for various activities.

Under Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Scheme, the government will also provide financial assistance to the women drivers to purchase a "Gypsy".

Moreover, the department will set up an amphitheater at Aamdanda in CTR where light and sound shows will be organized.

To make visitors see tigers, the government will also open a 'wildlife rescue centre’ in the Dhela range of CTR.
