In a move to honour sportspersons who win international medals, and encourage youth towards sports, Sprinter Hima Das has been appointed as DSP by the Assam government.
In a major welcoming move, a sportsperson has been inducted into Assam Police. We are talking about the popular "Dhing Express" of Assam, Sprinter Hima Das who is now appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Assam Police.
Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal, on February 26, extended the appointment letter to Ms. Das. Along with her, 597 newly recruited sub-inspectors (SIs) also got inducted into the Assam Police at a program organized in Guwahati.
The 21-year-old, Hima Das, had won a gold medal at 400 m at the IAAF U20 World Championships in 2018. She expresses that she wanted to join the police force since childhood.

The government of Assam has decided to adopt the sports policy and provide sportspersons, who win international medals with government jobs.The move is also aiming to encourage sports as a career option for the youth.
The state cabinet had decided on the appointment of Ms. Das earlier in February.
