Saima Ubaid becomes the first woman powerlifter of Jammu and Kashmir

After winning a gold medal for lifting a weight of 255 km, Saima Ubaid became the first woman powerlifter of Jammu and Kashmir.

This story has come from the beautiful valleys of Kashmir. Attempting to set an example for women, Saima Ubaid became the first woman powerlifter of Jammu and Kashmir as she secured a gold medal in the powerlifting competition.

Saima Ubaid, who is working as a trainer for females, has chosen powerlifting, her career. She had won the gold medal by lifting a weight of 255 kgs at the 4th Kashmir Powerlifting, Benchpress, and Deadlift Championship.

The championship organized in December 2020, by Jammu and Kashmir Powerlifting Association, had welcomed women, participants, for the first time. Both men and women from the state had participated in the championship.

Husband, the helping hand

Samia received the training from her husband Ubaiz Hafiz, who is also a powerlifter. Ubaiz helped Saima in losing weight as she was overweight when she had joined the gym. Ubaiz also guided him for the competition.

Saima continued powerlifting even after marriage and a kid that led her to win the medal. Hence, she wants other women to also pursue their dreams. She believes that no woman should forget about her dreams due to any societal pressure.

The powerlifter was a student of Government College, Srinagar, as she had completed her Bachelors in Home Science from this college.
