The resident of Delhi, Arun Bhardwaj, bags the title of 'First Indian Ultra-Marathon Runner' by completing the 560 km run in Mumbai, Nashik and Pune.
The holder of many long-distance running titles, Arun Kumar Bhardwaj, has bagged another title by becoming the first Indian Ultra-Marathon Runner to have completed Mumbai-Nashik-Pune-Mumbai run.
The non-stop run across three major cities of Maharashtra had begun on January 31. Arun completed the 560 km in a total of 166 hours.
However, the running did not complete smoothly as one of the biggest hindrances on his route was 14 km long Kasara ghat. It is considered to be the toughest ghats. Though, people on his way left no chance to support him. Several of them ran with Arun up to a few kilometres to support the cause behind his run which is to promote a healthy lifestyle.
The Delhi based man ran for 6.5 days where he covered a distance of 80 km per day on an average.
Challenging himself to become a role model for daughters
Arun loves challenges and hence, he opted for the route which included steep ghats. To inspire people towards health and fitness, his run was dedicated to spreading the message that "exercise and running" is important.
One of the first internationally acclaimed racers from India, Arun wants to be a role model for his daughters. He also believes that Ultra-Marathon runs will help in preparing athletes for the Olympics.
Before this, Arun has completed a 4,100-km run from Kargil to Kanyakumari in two months. Further, in the year 2010, he had won a title in '6-Day Race' in South Africa.
