If you go up north, chances are you will find some kind of chaat at every corner of the road. From the Bhel puri, Sev puri to Dahi puri, Papdi Chaat, the list is endless. And if you are wandering around the busy lanes of Varanasi, then chances are you will come across Banarasi Tamatar Chaat. Rather we say, Arre Banaras aaye aur Tamatar Chaat nahi khaaya toh khaak Chaat khaaya?
Unlike its counterparts, this chaat doesn't have a Puri base. But it is nearly impossible to have a chaat without potato, and that's the base of this dish. And of course, there's tomato given the name. The unique part of this dish is that instead of Sev, Banarasi Tamatar Chaat is garnished with Namakpara. Since it is popular in this holy city, you won't find it being garnished with onions.
