Tamil Nadu changes names of 1,018 places to complement Tamil pronunciation!

A big announcement comes from the end of the Tamil Nadu government. They have decided to changes the names of 1,018 places throughout the state of Tamil Nadu in order to preserve their native Tamil Language.

Once "Mylapore" in English, from now on, has to be written as "Mayilaappoor", the way it is pronounced in the Tamil language. A proper committee was set up to decide how each name should be written in English. Along, with this, the recommendations from district officials were considered.

From all the 37 revenue districts of Tamil Nadu, 1,018 names will go for correction. The responsibility of the work is allocated to the Revenue Department and the Municipal Administration Department.

An example, 'Puducherry' will now be written as 'Puthucherry' in English.

Purasawalkam - Purasaivaakkam

Triplicane - Thiruvallikkeni

Nanganallur - Nangainallur

Adambakkam - Aadhambaakkam

Ambattur - Ambaththoor

Thiruvottriyur - Thiruvotriyoor

Pernambut - Peranaampattu

Vatalagundu - Vaththalakundu

Thiruvarur - Thiruvaroor
