Pune has set goals for other cities. The Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation has recruited 163 women bus drivers in Pune. The women drivers were honored with appointment letters by Former President Pratibha Patel in a prestigious ceremony.
This opportunity for women bus drivers in Pune comes with flexibility in rules, where male drivers are required to have a minimum experience of three years driving a heavy motor vehicle, a woman driver is only required to have minimum one year experience in driving a light motor vehicle. Another standard that has been altered, MSRTC driver is required to have a minimum height of 160 cm for female drivers that have been reduced to 153 cm.
Every woman driver will undergo a thorough training process before hitting the road. At the moment, they have 36,000 male drivers and aim to appoint 10,000 women drivers soon.
