Airports are not only the gateways to other destinations but also a window to look at the country’s culture and innovation. In India, many airports stand out for their unique architecture, sustainable practices, or breathtaking locations. Here's a look at some of the most unique airports in the country.
Cochin International Airport, Kerala
This is not only India’s but the world’s first fully solar-powered airport located in Kerala’s Cochin. The airport generates its own electricity using solar panels and was opened in 2015. The 46,000 solar panels at the airport produce 12 megawatts of power, more than enough to run the airport’s operations.
Veer Savarkar International Airport, Port Blair
This airport serves as a gateway to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and offers a picturesque landing with views of the Indian Ocean. This is one of the most recent airports in India and its design is inspired by ocean waves, blending modern design with the essence of the islands. The airport also shares its airside with INS Utkrosh and the Indian Navy.

Surrounded by crystal clear waters on both sides, this airport is one of the most stunning when it comes to a good landing and take-off view for the passengers. Its short runway has turquoise waters on one side and coral reefs on the other making it a tough task for pilots but a promising view for the passengers.
Pakyong Airport, Sikkim
Another airport with a mountain view on one side and a valley on the other is Sikkim's Pakyong Airport. Located amidst the rolling hills of Sikkim, this airport boasts a beautiful location but what makes it more appealing is the way it was engineered despite the challenging geography of the region.
