Additionally, Rohit also suggests a few places that have a special place in his heart. Check out the list below!

Mrugagad Fort

If I had to pick just one trek to do all year, it would be the Mrugagad Fort trek. Tucked away in the Sudhagad Taluka of Raigad district, Maharashtra, this fort trek is an underrated wonder. What makes it so special? Imagine being surrounded 360° by towering green mountains, walking on carpets of unique wild grasses that sway in rhythm with the breeze, and stumbling upon secret waterfalls that tumble down mossy rocks. Mrugagad isn’t just a trek, it’s a time capsule. As you ascend, you feel the quiet presence of history embedded in its ancient stone structures. It’s an easy-to-moderate trail, making it an ideal first trek for beginners or weekend adventurers looking to reconnect with nature.

Where: Start your journey from Bheliv village, around 95 km from Mumbai and 45 km from Lonavala. The base is accessible by car or local transport from the Pali or Sudhagad regions.

Kataldhar Waterfall

Ever seen twin waterfalls gushing from the same cliff, plunging into a misty valley far below? If not, then Kataldhar should be next on your list. Located deep in the lush forests of Lonavala, near the famous Rajmachi fort trail, this hidden waterfall comes alive in the monsoon. The trek to Kataldhar is a moderate adventure, a mix of forest walk, steep descent, and crossing slippery rocks. But the reward is worth every step. The moment you stand facing the twin cascades, with water roaring beside you and a vast green valley stretching endlessly ahead, you’ll feel humbled and exhilarated all at once.

Where: Kataldhar lies on the Rajmachi trekking route, near Ulhas Valley, about 6 km from Lonavala Railway Station. It's not marked, so hiring a local guide or going with experienced trekkers is recommended.

Lingya Ghat Waterfall

Sometimes, all we want is an easy trail, minimal crowds, and a moment of calm with nature. That’s precisely what Lingya Ghat offers. Nestled in the hills near Khopoli, Lingya Ghat is a short and serene trek that ends at a stunning seasonal waterfall. Unlike popular touristy spots, Lingya Ghat is quiet, lesser-known, and perfect for those who want to enjoy the rains without the chaos. The path is lined with greenery, chirping birds, and the occasional monkey swinging above. Once you reach the waterfall, take a deep breath; the air is crisp, the surroundings untouched, and the sound of gushing water is utterly meditative. Make sure you have your trekking essentials with you!

Where: Lingya Ghat is near Khopoli town, around 70 km from Mumbai. The trek starts near the Sajjangad Phata or from Zambhulpada village, and is easy to finish within half a day.

There’s something raw, real, and grounding about being in the Sahyadris during the monsoon.  Maybe it’s the earthy scent of wet soil as you slowly climb through ancient trails. Or maybe it’s the stories, half-forgotten legends and whispered folklore that the stones and trees seem to carry with them. These offbeat treks aren’t just about fitness or adventure. They’re a form of healing. So if you’ve never explored the Sahyadris in the rains, don’t wait. Pick a trail, and just start walking. You might just find yourself along the way.
