As Ranaut filled her election nomination from Mandi, it paved the way for various controversies making the "Choti Kashi" come into the picture. Mandi, also called the Kashi or Varanasi of the Himalayas is located on the banks of River Beas. As per a few documents, it is believed that it was discovered in 1526 AD and formally became part of Himachal Pradesh on April 15, 1948 after independence it became the district headquarters after the merger of the princely states Mandi and Suket.
