The assets of the township are owned by the Auroville Foundation, which is in turn owned by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India. Residents do not use any currency here; instead, they have individual account numbers connected to their main account, and transactions occur using an ‘aurocard,’ which functions like a debit card. Healthcare facilities and schooling in the city are provided at no cost.
