Curtain ritual of Maharashtra

A very important ritual followed in Maharashtra is the Antarpat ritual, which has a deep significance for the Marathi community. This practice calls for a silk or cotton curtain to be held between the bride and groom as the priest recites the mantras (mangalashtakas). The curtain hinders the views first until the auspicious moment when it is lowered, making the bride and groom see each other in the wedding for the first time. Reportedly, the ritual signifies how they had separate lives before marriage, which is united at the wedding, with the ritual marking a new journey.

If you want a seamless experience to organise such weddings, perhaps you can check out the Zundaa events, Lilaac Moon Events and Ecstasy Events, all of which are popular names in the state.

Kashi Yatra is a light-hearted departure of the groom in certain communities of South India. In this ritual, the groom acts as if they have discarded their wedding plans to set out on a journey to Kashi to become a saint or scholar! This leads to a playful act by the bride’s father and brother, urging the groom to change his mind. The groom is then welcomed with the fans and umbrellas when they reach the stages or Mandaps!

In this southern state, you can find many of the organisers conducting both traditional and contemporary-style weddings. Check out Marriage Colours, Haritham Events, Pranaya Events and more.

In this, two women belonging to both the bride's and groom's families let loose two fish in the water! The meaning behind the act is about the marriage of the bride and groom, with the implication that if they swim harmoniously, it is considered that the couple will have a happy married life. Harmony and companionship in marriage remain at the core of this ritual.
