World's Best Airports: India's Top 5 Airports Taking Off!

The recent list and the ranking of Skytrax World Airport Awards, which is also called the Oscars of the airport industry is out and airports from India have made to the list. While there's a new champion, Doha’s Hamad International Airport as a winner, let's look at at airports back in our country and see which all got to be lucky! 

1. Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi

Maintaining the 36th rank is the airport of the capital city, Delhi. The airport has received the rank for the 6th time which was initially built around 1930. Currently, there are three terminals in the airport and it is capable of maintaining the passenger traffic of 65.32 million with the total aircraft movement being 4,29,964 as of 2022-2023.

2. Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai

Being in the 95th position, the International Airport of Mumbai was built in 1942 and offers various facilities with its multi-level spaces. The airport holds a passenger traffic of 51.58 million as of 2023 and is also considered to be one of the busiest airports in India that operates along with its domestic segment.  

3. Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru

The International Airport of Bengaluru has maintained the 59th position in the list which started functioning in May 2008. Very recently, the airport was in the limelight for the highest-ever passenger traffic amounting to 37.53 million passengers in the year 2023-24. Lying on the outskirts of the city, the airport is also popular for its connectivity to places across the world.

4. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad

Scoring the 61st position in the list, this Hyderabad airport was inaugurated in 2008 and is doing rounds for its surge in passenger movements making up to 25 million in the financial year 2024. The airport also handles 148,000 tons of cargo annually and is also popular for being one of the largest airports in India.

5. Manohar International Airport, Goa

The recent airport in Goa has now taken the 92nd number on the list. It was recently established in December 2022. The airport can handle 4.4 million passengers per annum and currently, handles around 100 aircraft movements with around 15,000 passengers daily. It is the second airport built in Goa!
