Tvastra by Prachi Foundation, launched by serial entrepreneur Sumit Govind Sharma in loving memory of his daughter Prachi, has joined hands with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to make art education accessible to underprivileged children across Mumbai’s public schools.
Prachi, who began creating art at the age of six, produced over 200 original works spanning paintings, sketches, calligraphy, and quilling. Her signature motif included butterflies, symbolising freedom and vibrancy. She named her collection Tvastra, a Sanskrit word meaning “ancient creativity.”
To honour her passion, the Tvastra by Prachi Foundation carries forward her vision by ensuring that children with talent but limited resources have the opportunity to nurture their artistic potential. The initiative seeks to fill critical gaps in art education where financial limitations and a lack of trained teachers hold back young artists.
Through its partnership with BMC, the foundation is rolling out structured art programs that include free distribution of art supplies to eliminate cost barriers, curriculum-based teaching delivered by trained art educators, regular classes and specialised art camps in participating schools, community exhibitions to showcase student artwork and build recognition.
Speaking about the initiative, Sumit Govind Sharma, trustee of Tvastra by Prachi Foundation, said: “Art can shape imagination and give kids a voice that goes beyond words. We want every child, no matter where they come from, to be able to take up a brush, pencil, or colour and express themselves freely. Our goal is to transform classrooms so that art is not a privilege but a shared experience—creating spaces where young students can take pride in their creativity.”
Over the coming months, Tvastra by Prachi Foundation will launch a citywide campaign with BMC to expand access to art, provide advanced training modules, and organise large-scale exhibitions highlighting children’s talent.
