The recent list of Time magazine's 100 most influential people of 2024 is out and several Indians and people of Indian origin have made it to the list which includes artists, icons, movie stars, scientists, athletes, politicians and business leaders who have made an impact by their work. The list is divided into several categories like 'artists', 'icons', titans' and more.
Receiving the limelight is the B'town actress Alia Bhatt. In a write-up for Time magazine, British film director Tom Harper has described Alia Bhatt as a “formidable talent.” Bhatt has worked predominantly in the Hindi film industry and has on her name various hits. She is also the recipient of a National Film Award and is one of the highest-paid actresses, she also made her international debut with 'Heart of Stone'.
Another one on the list who has been gaining popularity since the time of the release of the list is a British actor of Indian descent, Dev Patel. His parents are Indian Gujarati Hindus and Patel, of Indian origin, made a big screen debut with “Slumdog Millionaire”, a film that brought him international laurels in 2008. He has also made his directorial debut with “Monkey Man” this year.
Sakshi Malik, the first and only female wrestler to win an Olympic medal, is the only one on the list who also came to the limelight after being transparent about the harassment faced by Brij Bhushan Singh, the former Wrestling Federation of India chief.
The executive chairman and CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella has also made it to the list for the third time now. With the investments in OpenAI and partnership with Mistral AI, Nadela, born in Hyderabad has been at the forefront of the AI movement.
Ajay Banga, who is currently serving as the president of the World Bank, has also made it to the list. He was born in Pune and graduated from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi, where he studied Economics. He went on to become a US citizen in 2007.
Born in India, the Director of the US Department of Energy’s Loan Programs Office, Jigar Shah is also on the most influential people list by Time magazine. However, he moved to the United States when he was one year old.
Asma Khan, an Indian-born British restaurateur and cookbook author is popular for the acclaimed London restaurant, Darjeeling Express, which is famous for running an all-female kitchen.
Another Indian to make it to the list is Priyamvada Natarajan, a professor in the departments of astronomy and physics at Yale University. She is popular for her work in mapping dark matter and dark energy. Born in Tamil Nadu, Natarajan studied at Delhi Public School, RK Puram.
