Indian actor and theatre artist Ritika Shrotri will present her solo play The Light Catcher to international audiences this August, with scheduled performances at the Camden Fringe in London and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025. This marks a significant step in her theatre journey, as one of the few solo productions from India to feature at both platforms, including the Edinburgh Fringe, known for its focus on independent and experimental performance.

The Light Catcher is a one-woman production in which Shrotri performs ten distinct characters on stage. The narrative explores themes of memory, identity, and emotion, and is staged with minimal use of props or costume changes. The emphasis remains on character transitions and storytelling through performance. The play has previously been showcased at the National School of Drama’s Bharat Rang Mahotsav and was officially selected for NSDF UK, indicating its resonance with audiences across cultural contexts.

Shrotri has worked across both film and theatre. Her film roles include appearances in Meenakshi Sundareshwar on Netflix and Bucket List, where she played the daughter of actor Madhuri Dixit. She has also featured in Marathi films such as Sari and Darling, and is set to appear in Raid 2. Alongside her screen work, theatre has remained a core part of her career. She has acted in over fifteen plays across English, Hindi, and Marathi, and has focused particularly on solo and character-driven formats. Her past solo work has also been part of the Edinburgh Fringe and NSDF UK selections.

The upcoming UK tour begins with Camden Fringe performances on August 10 and 11, followed by a run at Edinburgh Fringe from August 18 to 23 August at TheSpace @ Surgeons’ Hall. The play highlights the evolving presence of Indian solo performers on international stages and contributes to wider cross-border conversations through its personal and minimalistic style.
