India wins first-ever Kho-Kho World Cup in men’s and women’s category
The Kho Kho World Cup 2025 concluded on January 19, Sunday in New Delhi with a golden season for team India. Both, the Indian men’s and women’s teams were crowned champions in the first-ever Kho-Kho World Cup, marking their reign in the tournament. Both teams defeated Nepal with a score of 54-36 for men's and 78-40 for women's in both finals held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
First successful trial run conducted on the Katra-Srinagar line
A 22-bogie train trial run was successfully completed between Katra and Srinagar railway stations on Sunday, January 19. The train, comprising 18 AC coaches, 2 luggage carriers and 2 engines, left the Katra railway station at around 8 am, successfully reaching its destination within four hours under the watchful eyes of the railway authorities, the officials said to The Hindu. This line aims to connect Kashmir with the rest of the country via rail.
Chief Minister Fadnavis announces 'Innovation City' in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has decided to build an 'Innovation City' in the state in line with the GIFT City in Gujarat. These efforts are taken to maintain the state’s leadership in India’s start-up ecosystem. Speaking at a forum on startups and technology, Devendra Fadnavis said, "The way GIFT City has been created, we aim to develop an Innovation City in Maharashtra at an even faster pace.” This initiative would create a hub for technology and innovation, providing fertile ground for start-ups, particularly in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence (AI).
R G Kar accused given life imprisonment
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Anirban Das in Sealdah, West Bengal declared Roy guilty of rape and murder of the doctor in the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital. Roy was found guilty on the above-mentioned charges and was given life imprisonment today.
India's first female-only Lounge is in Bangalore

The Miss and Mrs Club in Bannerghatta Road aims to offer a safe and lively environment for women to socialize, dance, and unwind. Hyderabad Metro Rail creates a 13-km green channel to facilitate heart transplant

In a great display of timely management, the Hyderabad Metro Rail on Friday, January 17, created a 13-km green channel for transportation of a donor’s heart. The epic coordination between the team of medical professionals and the metro department carried the heart from L B Nagar’s Kamineni Hospital to Gleneagles Global Hospital, Lakdikapul in just 13 minutes, covering a distance of 13 km.
Fire at Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayaraj causes destruction to properties, no casualties reported

A massive fire broke out at Maha Kumbh Mela on Sunday evening leaving at least 40 thatched huts and six tents ruined. The fire broke out due to an LPG cylinder blast in the kitchen of Geeta Press camp near Karpatriji’s camp in Sector 19. There was no report of any major casualty as mentioned by Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar.
India is still the fastest-growing large economy in the world
According to the World Bank's Global Economic Prospects (GEP) report, published in January 2025, India's GDP is expected to develop steadily at a rate of 6.7% in FY26 and FY27, greatly above its regional and international counterparts. This means India will be maintaining its status as the fastest-growing large economy for the next two fiscal years.
