Cable car projects to be launched soon in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region

Maharashtra's transport minister, Pratap Sarnaik, announced on Monday that cable car projects will be launched in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to improve transportation for citizens and tourists. This move is being considered due to the increasing number of vehicles, inadequate road and railway services, and mounting pollution in the MMR.

Three students from Mumbai get the “Mathematician of the Year” title in Infinity 2025

The 11th edition of the Infinity 2025, organised by the Aditya Birla World Academy (ABWA) in collaboration with BITS Pilani, saw three students from Mumbai bagging the “Mathematician of the Year” title. Two students from Mumbai's Aditya Birla World Academy, Arjun Pathak and Suhaan Mobhani, and Dhirubhai Ambani International School's Moksh Nihalani were awarded the “Mathematician of the Year” in the advanced category. The mathematics championship event saw participation from over 400 students from 8 different countries, including India, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Dubai, Kuwait, Qatar and Indonesia. 

Kolkata ranked India’s slowest city due to traffic congestion

Bengaluru and Kolkata ranked first and second on the list of India's most crowded cities in the 2024 Global Traffic Index, published by the Dutch location technology company TomTom. Chennai, Hyderabad, and Pune round out the top five. Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Ernakulam, Jaipur, and New Delhi are ranked sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth, respectively.

Ajith Kumar secures third place in the Dubai 24H 2025 race

South cinema actor Ajith Kumar made a grand comeback in his racing career after winning two races in the Dubai 24H race. The actor secured third place in the 991 category and received the "Spirit of the Race" recognition in the GT4 category. He also owns his own racing team, Ajith Kumar Racing, under which he won the competition. 

Tamil Nadu government introduces bill to propose harsher penalties for crimes against women and children

Prohibition Of Harassment Of Women Act

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin introduced a bill to further amend the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Of Harassment Of Women Act, 1998. According to the proposed amendment, the law will punish repeat offenders of sexual violence with either life in prison or a death sentence. The accused in acid attack cases will be imprisoned for at least 10 years, with the possibility of life imprisonment. The accused will be subject to a harsh 14-year rigorous imprisonment for sexual violence.

Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 begins in Prayaraj, over 60 lakh people take the holy dip

Maha Kumbh Mela, the world's largest religious congregation, commenced today in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj district. As reported by the UP government, over 60 lakh devotees took a dip in the Ganga river on the first 'Shahi Snan' on the occasion of Pauh Purnima. 

PM Modi to inaugurate Z-Morh Tunnel in Jammu & Kashmir

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Jammu and Kashmir today to inaugurate the Z-Morh Tunnel, a key infrastructure project designed to provide all-weather connectivity to the scenic hill station of Sonamarg. The 6.5-kilometer, two-lane Z-Morh Tunnel between Gagangir and Sonamarg is expected to avoid the avalanche-prone Gagangir-Sonamarg road, according to official sources. The tunnel, which takes its name from the "Z-shaped" section of the road it replaces, significantly cuts travel time, from hours on the old route to just 15 minutes.

Kaziranga celebrates as Pori, the youngest member of Kaziranga's elephant family turns one

The Kaziranga fraternity distributed fruits and cut a cake to the park's elephants in honour of Pori, their youngest elephant, who turned one year old. The cake for Pori was meticulously crafted, and the park authority aims to establish this as a tradition to celebrate the human-elephant bond.
