Indian MMA fighter becomes the first Indian to win in the UFC
Mixed Martial Artist Puja Tomar, on Saturday, June 8 achieved a feat that no Indian has claimed to date. She became the first Indian to win a match in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). The 28-year-old from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh defeated Brazil's Rayanne dos Santos at UFC Louisville 2024. She won by a split division with scores of 30-27, 27-30, and 29-28. The fighter had already broken one record of being the first Indian woman to sign a UFC contract earlier.
Telangana's Peddapalli district to get a new Coca-Cola plant
The Peddapalli district of Telangana is the planned site of a new greenfield manufacturing factory by the multinational beverage company Coca-Cola. The company's wholly-owned bottling subsidiary, Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages (HCCB) intends to invest an estimated INR 700 Crore and look over the plant’s establishment. The potential sites have already been shortlisted as per the reports. The move is taken in regard to forming its presence in the state, bolstering its economy and supporting the local community by providing jobs.
Bangalore International Airport introduces electric taxis
The international airport of Bangalore, in collaboration with Refex eVeelz, an all-electric 4-wheeler fleet provider, launched electric taxis for commuters as part of a sustainability push. The electric airport taxis are part of BIAL's commitment to sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in the transportation sector. Currently, the airport has launched 175 such taxis, with plans to add more and encourage other facilities.
R Paggnanandhaa finishes third in Norway Chess 2024
Indian Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa finished an unforgettable tournament for himself and India, securing third place in the Norway Chess 2024. World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen won the title for the sixth time, despite being defeated by the 18-year-old Indian in a game during the championship. American Grandmaster Hikaru Nakamura stood second. Praggnanandhaa is currently in the eighth position in the World Chess Ranking.
