Contemporary handloom label Bailou launched its debut Mumbai store today under the name Bailou Bombay. The store opened under the leadership of Mira Sagar, in collaboration with Bappaditya Biswas, co-founder of Bailou and one of India’s most respected textile revivalists.

With this launch, Bailou Bombay aims to introduce this quiet, intellectual textile language to Mumbai, bridging Bengal’s contemporary handloom movement with the city’s culturally diverse and design-forward audience. Reflecting on the launch, Mira Sagar said, “Bombay absorbs style through culture—through cinema, through art, through everyday life. Bringing Bailou here felt intuitive. The brand’s quiet confidence and thoughtful design sensibility resonate deeply with people who don’t need to shout to be seen.”

Founded in Kolkata by Bappaditya and Rumi Biswas, Bailou has long been recognised for pushing the boundaries of Bengal handloom. With the opening of Bailou Bombay, Mumbai became only the second city in India to host a
standalone Bailou space. The store opened today to an audience that included stylists, architects, textile patrons, and members of the cultural community, all drawn to Bailou’s distinct philosophy and modernist approach to Indian craft.
