TasteAtlas recently released a list of the 100 Most Legendary Restaurants in the world, and seven legendary eateries from India made their way into the list. According to the experiential travel online guide, these restaurants are renowned for their longevity, reliability, and iconic dishes. “The ranking reflects their history, public ratings, and TasteAtlas scores for their signature dishes,” added the report. Paragon Restaurant - Kozhikode, Kerala
Paragon Restaurant in Kerala’s Kozhikode is in the 5th position on the list. It is famous for its Malabar cuisine, particularly its biryanis and seafood dishes, served in a contemporary, spacious setting. This iconic eatery, founded in 1939, known for its flavoursome dishes and quality ingredients, is a culinary landmark in the region. After initially offering a fusion of the Malabar region’s Moplah and Thiyya Cuisines, the master chefs at Paragon have ceaselessly innovated to transform the cuisine over the years.
Peter Cat - Kolkata, West Bengal
Located in Kolkata, Peter Cat, which is on the 7th number on the list, is renowned as the originator of chelo kebab. The restaurant serves Indo-Iranian cuisine, served in a nostalgic, retro ambience. This iconic restaurant, with its distinctive red-and-gold interiors, has been a culinary landmark in the city for generations after its formation in 1975.
Amrik Sukhdev - Murthal, Haryana
Amrik Sukhdev Dhaba in Murthal, Haryana, which was founded in 1956 mainly to cater to the needs of truck drivers, is now the 13th most legendary restaurant in the world, according to TasteAtlas. The restaurant serves authentic Indian cuisine from north and south along with the global flavours of Chinese and Continental food. However, it is known for its aloo parathas.
Karim's - Delhi
Karim's, the iconic restaurant in New Delhi, opened its doors in 1913. The place is got its famous due to its two Royal dishes - Alu Gosht and Daal back in the day. Since then, the restaurant has grown and today is serving a wide variety of delicious meals not only in Delhi but all over the country. Karim's was on 59 number on the list of TasteAtlas.
Central Tiffin Room (CTR) - Bangalore, Karnataka
Founded in the 1920s, Central Tiffin Room is a heritage restaurant in Bangalore with a reputation for excellent South Indian food. The restaurant, which ranked number 69, is most known for its Masala Dosas and is equally loved by people of all ages, as well as a few regular celebrities.
Gulati Restaurant - Delhi
Gulati Restaurant, established in 1959 on Pandara Road in New Delhi, is renowned for its exceptional North Indian, Mughlai, Hyderabadi and Tandoori cuisine, particularly its acclaimed butter chicken and dal makhani. What started from a modest little dhaba has today transformed into an elegantly ornated Fine Dining Restaurant, giving it the 77th position in the list of legendary restaurants.
Ram Ashraya, Mumbai, Maharashtra
Established in 1939, Hotel Ram Ashraya is known as one of the best places for authentic South Indian cuisine, especially for dosas, in Mumbai. The menu changes every day, so you will not see a standard menu card, but all daily dishes are written on the walls. Despite the changing menu, a few dishes like upma, idli and filter coffee remain the hot dishes. This eatery was ranked at no. 78, just after Gulati on the list.
