In a market filled with traditional sarees that often require time and skill to drape, Kruthika Reddy, a 24-year-old fashion designer and entrepreneur from Bengaluru, saw an opportunity to make things easier. She is the founder of Kruthika Designer Studio, a boutique known for its ready-to-wear gown sarees, zip sarees, and custom-stitched ethnic wear for women and kids. “The idea came from watching so many women struggle with wearing sarees,” says Kruthika. “Whether it was for work, events, or festivals, many found it difficult to manage the draping, pleating, and pinning. That’s when I started thinking—why not create a saree that you can just wear like a dress?”
The designer initially designed gown sarees with detachable pallus that resembled half-sarees. But she soon realised there was room for improvement. “We changed the design to have attached pallus, which gave it a proper saree look without compromising on ease,” she explains. “This way, women could still get that traditional appearance without the hassle.”
Soon, her gown sarees became famous among the customers, but now they are greedy for more. The demand led to the introduction of invisible zip sarees, making it even more convenient for users to simply zip up their sarees and go. The zip and gown sarees gained popularity quickly, especially among working women, young adults, foreign clients, and even elderly or physically challenged individuals.“These designs work well for anyone who wants a modest look and for people who just don’t have time to drape a saree,” says Kruthika. “Our international customers also love it because they don’t have to worry about finding a blouse or an in-skirt.”
Many customers also encountered another problem: there were not enough size options available for the saree. While many businesses offer similar styles, Kruthika Designer Studio stands out by offering custom sizing for each client. “We don’t sell standard sizes,” says Kruthika. Everything is made to order based on the customer’s measurements. That’s how we ensure a great fit.”
To date, the brand has sold over 10,000 sarees, with 99% of customers happy with the fit and design. A small percentage of issues have occurred due to incorrect measurements, something Kruthika plans to solve soon. “We’re working on setting up a video call system to guide customers through taking accurate measurements,” she says. “We know it will make the experience even better.”
Beyond zip and gown sarees, Kruthika Designer Studio offers blouses, lehengas, kurtis, Indo-Western outfits, and custom wear for kids. The brand also specialises in handwork and hand-painting services, often revamping old sarees and blouses into fresh pieces. During festive seasons, the studio caters to cultural traditions as well, offering beautifully draped Lakshmi Matha idols for Pooja setups—especially popular among international clients.
“We’re not just a boutique—we’re a full-service studio that blends creativity with convenience,” says Kruthika. “And everything we sell is made in-house, so we have full control over quality and design.”With a growing customer base and a unique product line, Kruthika Designer Studio continues to carve its own space in the ethnic wear segment—one zip saree at a time.
