Be it Alanna Panday’s bridal soiree or the glamorous events that have popped on the trending page, there’s one thing in common between them. And no, we aren’t talking about celeb culture. It’s the events themselves that have made a mark on us all. And credit goes to the mastermind behind the company, Do It Up, who’s been B-Town’s favourite and one of the most sought after decor brands in the city! That’s Architect and Founder Taral Jadhav, whom Local Samosa talked to to understand what goes into running an event design and decor brand that specialises in intimate celebrations on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Architecture to Bespoke Events

Established in 2020 during the lockdown, Do It Up has become the most sought-after event company for not just regular folks, but also celebrities. Taral shares, “Being an architect, I always had a passion for space design, I just wanted to figure my niche, and  5 years ago, in the middle of lockdown, I did. Celebrating my family’s birthdays at home is what  ignited my love for styling and makeovers, eventually turning into an event and interior design firm -  Do It Up.”

When asked what is the core philosophy behind the aesthetic choices she makes for the clients, she quipped with something simple yet resounding. “A day to remember, where my clients step into a space that is made just for them to celebrate a  small occasion or a big milestone - each made with love and attention so they feel taken care of.”

Woman Entrepreneur Navigating the Events Industry

“The event industry is still in the process of being an organised one, whether it’s vendors or clients. Establishing myself as a fresh graduate took a lot more time than I thought it would because of the general perception. It has taken a while to establish authority and trust. Recognising that this was a concern and being patient was the only way to move past this,” Taral mentions.

Behind Every Successful Entrepreneur is an Aligned Team

They’ve had the pleasure of working with prestigious clients including Bollywood celebrities like Kiara Advani, Janhvi Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Katrina Kaif, Malaika Arora, Bhumi Pednekar, Akshay Kumar, and Kriti Sanon. It surely isn’t easy to manage such a clientele, let alone architects, interior designers, and stylists. “Always aligning them to your long term vision of the brand, instilling core values of what you’re working towards and ensuring their expectations of growth during their time at the firm are being met,” she says, talking about keeping everyone motivated and inspired to bring her vision to life.

Customisation is Key

Catering to the different tastes and preferences of the clients when it comes to custom event planning is no small task. Taral elaborates on this, “We spend a lot of time in the initial stages to understand a client's personality, we don’t necessarily ask questions directly related to decor but overall getting a sense of what they are is what helps in really curating something special for them.”

Standing by a Virtual Working Process

In today’s digital world, virtual consultations have become essential. “We began in lockdown, so right from the start we have incorporated a strong virtual working process,” Taral states. “In fact, we still operate in a WFH + on ground module that has worked very well for us as a team as well as connect to clients pan India and abroad too. It gives a lot of flexibility with our  clientele reach and also helps in avoiding physical burn outs.”

Sustainability is Limiting Wastage

Sustainable weddings in India merge eco-friendly practices with tradition. From mindful choices in venues, attire, and catering, couples can create beautiful, low-impact celebrations while supporting ethical businesses. Sustainable weddings in India blend tradition with eco-friendly practices, enabling couples to reduce their environmental impact while creating meaningful celebrations.

Taral shares her take on sustainability in the wedding industry. “Personally, sustainability to me meant not creating more wastage to an extent possible, when we started Do It Up, we invested in an inventory set that aligned with our aesthetics and created a range of setups which can be incorporated into various themes by just tweaking some aspects. We still do execute those setups even after 5 years, it has allowed us to create signature setups that we do as a firm, but we still have a long way to go to achieve a better balance.”

Planning Ahead as a Woman Entrepreneur

For young women who aspire to become entrepreneurs or make a mark in the creative industries, Taral has a solid message: “Your dream and passion will triumph. Fight the odds with sincerity and love for what you do. People will eventually value that.”

“We have quite a few exciting things lined up for the next couple of years, while our current focus is wedding design in particular, I also have plans to dive into products made by Do It Up which would be a part of both event and interiors done by us but will be available pan India for everyone to purchase a piece of do it up and bring home,” she concludes.
