Since ancient times, Indians have been consuming millets in various forms. Major millets like jowar (sorghum) and bajra (pearl millet) are widely used. Not to forget, several regions, according to the climate and cuisine, make use of minor millets. These include ragi (finger millet), kangni (foxtail millet), kutki (little millet), kodo millet, sawan/jhangora (barnyard millet), cheena (proso millet/common millet), and korale (brown top millet). They knew how nutritious millets are and now the newer generation is waking up to the benefits of eating millets. Today, with the food industry’s growth, brands are bringing millet-based products to every corner of the nation. And they come in fun categories like millet noodles, pancakes and so much more. So here’s a list of some yummy millet products by Indian brands that are available in the market.

At Mille, they make delicious products using supergrains like millets, lentils and legumes that are gluten-free, high-protein, fibre-rich, and inherently climate-smart. The brand, founded by Maghana Narayan, Shauravi Malik and Umang Bhattacharya, uses 100% whole grain. The Classic Millet Pancake Mix has mung and pea protein. Mille says that the product has 2.1x protein, 4x fibre, 96% less sugar and 17% less carbs in comparison to other regular pancake mixes. It is loaded with supergrains such as Sorghum, Oats, Amaranth, Foxtail Millet (Kangni), mung bean protein and flax seed powder. It also says that the pancake mixes have no atta, no maida and no refined sugar. The pancake mix comes in flavours like banana chocochip, chocolate and blueberry as well.

Ruchika Bhuwalka’s passion for healthy eating and supporting local farmers led to the creation of Millet Amma. The brand has appeared on Shark Tank India’s season 3 episode. Their millet product line currently comprises nearly 40 products including batters, mixes, pizza base, lavash, cookies, grains, flours, and more. The Bajra Millet Chivda is a tasty substitute for the fried and oily snacks most of us consume with chai in the evening. It is suitable for a gluten-free, vegan diet. This snack contains 12.72% protein and claims to be rich in antioxidants.
