Initially, they started small, using a vacant house in their village to grow mushrooms on a tiny scale, earning around Rs. 30,000. But the journey didn’t stop there. With formal training from Solan in Himachal Pradesh, they set up a larger mushroom production unit, with support from the horticulture department and the MIDH scheme funded by the central government. By 2019, they were commercially producing mushrooms and in their first year, they harvested a remarkable 80 quintals, earning Rs. 8 lakh. And by 2020, they scaled up even further, producing 90 quintals and continuing to grow year after year.

The icing on the cake? Their success caught the attention of none other than Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who interacted with Sushant during a virtual meeting with Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojna beneficiaries. In a candid conversation, Sushant explained how he had returned to his village to explore self-employment opportunities and was inspired by the region’s ideal conditions for mushroom farming.
