Electric vehicles are the future, and three-wheelers have always been the present of India. Combining the two, a veteran from Pune ventured on a start-up idea that is both sustainable and cheap. Bhupen Mehta (79) and Pramod Kanutkar (59) founded MK EVtron in 2022 when they envisioned the upsurge of EVs in the future. Three-wheelers, being an integral part of road transport in the country, were picked up as their key product. MK EVtron was born out of the need for efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective last-mile delivery vehicles,” says Bhupen Mehta, Founder of MK EVtron.

We wanted to focus on the vehicle performance and price points that are best in class. We also plan to set up a hassle-free after-sales service experience.” says the founder. With this model, the 79-year-old reached the doorsteps of Shark Tank India Season 4. In a bid to scale operations, MK EVtron recently pitched its business model in the 34th episode of the show, seeking an investment of Rs. 3 crores for 5% equity from the Sharks. While the brand did not secure a deal, the experience proved to be invaluable.
Mehta says, “Shark Tank India was a great experience as we never had an opportunity to be in front of a camera. The Sharks were friendly and had good questions pertaining to our product. Since we are in the early stage of product launch with no prior sales figures, we were unable to get any funds.” Despite not securing an investment, the exposure from the show provided a significant boost to the brand’s visibility.
Looking ahead, MK EVtron remains committed to expanding its footprint in the EV space. If they receive funding in the future, the brand aims to enhance its manufacturing capacity and working capital to increase sales. At 79, Bhupen Mehta is proving that innovation and entrepreneurship have no age limit, leading the way with a vision for a greener, more efficient future.
