Unkani

In an era where style cycles shift faster than seasons, Unkani claims to remain rooted in preserving tradition. Every weave, motif, and hand-embroidered flourish is said to carry the weight of generations, serving as a testament to India’s enduring craft heritage. Blending age-old artistry with contemporary design, the brand is keen on showing that progress in fashion doesn’t require abandoning its history. For Unkani, each creation is curated as a subtle act of resistance against cultural forgetfulness, said to be crafted with intention, skill, and the stories of those who came before.

Who Founded Unkani and How It Began

Unkani was created by Delhi-based fashion influencer, Kanishk Anand. Having built a presence online through fearless style experiments and unapologetic self-expression, Kanishk saw an opportunity to expand his content creator jobs and translate his aesthetic into one of the best indian homegrown fashion brands. From the very beginning, his vision for Unkani extended beyond clothing as it was about shaping a platform that celebrated individuality and refused to dilute its character to fit mainstream trends.

Talking to Social Ketchup in 2023, Kanishk had mentioned, "I am a GenZ lovestruck with 90s style.Maybe this runs in my family since we all love 90s fashion, songs, and whatnot. 90s fashion trends are the moment. Be it cardigans, baggy trousers, crochet, or flared pants, I have been obsessing over all ofthem. Taking a fresh and unique take on my style and marrying it with old fashion is something I love doing to depict my personal style. This challenges me as a fashion creator and gives me a sense of contentment when people love and appreciate it. Upcycling is something I really enjoy personally, and I have created a lot of pieces that depict my personal style and areunique in their own way."

The brand’s early days were rooted in small-scale, hands-on work, with Kanishk collaborating closely with artisans and craftspeople. By merging traditional weaving and embroidery techniques with contemporary fashion, street-inspired silhouettes, Unkani is trying to carve out a distinctive design language. It wasn’t driven by the rush for mass production; instead, it sought to create pieces that carried intent, craft, and a sense of cultural pride in every stitch.

What Makes Unkani Stand Out

According to the founder, Unkani’s strength lies in its ability to merge two worlds, the rooted authenticity of handcrafted Indian textiles and the fearless creativity of digital-first fashion. While many slow-fashion brands focus solely on craft heritage, Unkani promises to infuse it with an unapologetic, experimental edge to top the list of the best indian fashion brands. This dual identity allows the brand to connect with a new generation that values both cultural depth and trend-relevant aesthetics, says the fashion community.

Beyond selling garments, Unkani is trying to build a blueprint for how independent creators can evolve into brand leaders without losing their voice. By leveraging storytelling, social media reach, and collaborations with emerging creatives, Unkani is setting the stage for a model where digital content creators and brand-building fuel each other. In doing so, it’s opening the door for a wave of creator-led fashion labels that can be as bold, authentic, and future-focused as the people behind them.

Signature Pieces from Unkani

Unkani’s collections often feature distinctive, limited-run pieces that merge traditional textile craftsmanship with bold, contemporary tailoring. Among their most recognisable creations are sharply cut statement suits and richly textured jackets, crafted using handwoven fabrics and intricate embroidery. These garments, often reflecting founder Kanishk’s eclectic style, are typically made in small batches and offered exclusively through direct orders on Instagram. While pricing isn’t openly advertised, similar artisan-led designs in the market suggest that their suits may range between Rs. 10,000 and Rs 20,000, depending on fabric choice and detailing.

The brand also experiments with capsule outerwear collections in collaboration with fellow creatives and influencers. These drops have included cropped jackets, bomber silhouettes, and hand-block printed designs, each made-to-order to ensure uniqueness. Such pieces tend to fall within a premium price bracket, often estimated between Rs 7,000 and Rs 15,000, further reinforcing Unkani’s identity as a niche, bespoke fashion label that values quality and individuality over mass production.

The Road Ahead

Unkani is said to be on its way to become a meeting point for cultural heritage and contemporary style while also maintaining personal storytelling and community identity. By grounding its creations in age-old techniques while presenting them through a modern, experimental lens, the brand plans on carving out a space that feels both rooted and relevant. Its evolution demonstrates that creator-led fashion can flourish without compromising its principles, as long as it stays anchored in authenticity.
