If you are an animal lover and adore monkeys just like us, here's a list of places where you can find different species of monkeys in the country.

Monkeys are beautiful creatures and they look uber cute with their man-like activities. They use grooming to strengthen relationships, are good with tools, and some of them even love to take a relaxing hot bath. This animal is truly fascinating, and so if you wish to see them in person, here's a list of places where you can say hello to different monkey species in India. 

1. Nameri National Park for Capped Langur

This gorgeous orange beauty is currently threatened by habitat loss and is arboreal by nature, meaning they are usually found jumping through the forest branches. They are also very playful and love socializing through grooming and hugging, and you can meet them at the Nameri National Park in Assam.

2. Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary for Hoolock Gibbons and Stump-Tailed Macaque

This species of monkey has long and slender arms and is known for the emotive call that is used to attract mates. Their population is also declining with every passing year and is 'Endangered' according to the IUCN Red List.

The stump-tailed macaque has bright pink or red faces and cheek pouches where it can store food for a while. These macaques (monkeys with a sturdy build and can be short-tailed or tailless) are arboreal and terrestrial and have multiple mates. You can find both species at Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary in Assam.

3. Manas National Park for Golden Langur

Gee's golden langur, aka Golden langur, is considered one of the most endangered species in India and Bhutan. They are quite secretive and arboreal, living high where they climb up trees on all fours making fearless leaps. You can encounter them in Assam's Manas National Park in India.

4. Nilgiri Hills for Nilgiri Langur

Nilgiri Langur, aka black-leaf monkey, is another beautiful species of monkey that communicate primarily through vocalization. They are classified as 'Vulnerable' by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, as there are about 5,000 of them left in the wild. You can spot them in the Nilgiri Hills as well as the Silent Valley National Park of Kerala, as they are one of the must-see monkey species in India.

5. Bannerghatta National Park for Bonnet Macaque

These macaques are diurnal animals but can also climb branches. They are polygynandrous and thus have multiple partners. This one is not endangered yet, but its population is also declining gradually. They are also viewed as important seeds disperser in the forest and can be glimpsed in the Anjaw district in central Arunachal Pradesh and Bannerghatta National Park in Bangalore.

6. Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve for Lion-Tailed Macaque

Lion Tailed Macaque is shy in nature and does not go beyond its rainforest habitat, and stays in its usual range. Their communication system has 17 vocalizations, one of which sounds like a human's whoops. The Silent Valley National Park in Kerala has the largest number of Lion Tailed Macaques in India, but you can also meet them at the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserves in Tamil Nadu.

7. Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary to see Arunachal Macaque

This large brown monkey with a short tail is also listed as Endangered on the IUCN Red List. They also do serve as seed dispersers and are famous for their destructive raids on crops such as millet, maize, barley, and fruits. You can see them at Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh.

8. Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary for Leaf Monkey

Leaf monkeys are one of the most adorable monkey species and are usually found in the forest of Tripura. They spend most of their time in trees and are quite shy and prefer to flee when threatened. You can find them at the Gumti Wildlife Sanctuary in Tripura.
