1. New restrictions in Maharashtra from today
Maharashtra government has imposed a few new restrictions that will be applicable from today in which hair salons, malls will operate at 50% capacity. Public places like zoos, entertainment parks, gardens will be closed. The movement of 5 and more than 5 people has been barred between 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. Restaurants and cinema halls will also operate at 50% capacity.
2. Women to manage at least one polling booth in each constituency
The Election Commission of India has announced that at least one polling booth in each constituency will be managed by women in the upcoming elections in 2022. All staff, including election workers, police, and security officers will be women at these booths. The Election Commission is going to establish 1,620 polling stations for this purpose.
3. Tamil Nadu to digitize demarcation of forest boundaries
The forest department of Tamil Nadu has taken an initiative to digitize various forest-related activities in which the forest boundaries will be digitized too to control encroachments. The project will be carried under the name, ‘Tamil Nadu Digital Forests’, where the government will also carry a digital GPS survey and collect a geo-database.
4. UP gets the first position in National Water Award 2020
In the Union Ministry’s Jal Shakti National Water Awards 2021, Uttar Pradesh has won the first position for adopting a holistic approach towards water waste management. The second and the third position have been secured by Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, respectively. In addition, Varanasi won in the best village panchayat in the North zone.
5. Water Taxi Service between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai
Water taxi services are going to start between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai that will reduce the period to just 25 minutes. The service will connect Nerul, Belapur, and JNPT with the Domestic Cruise Terminal in South Mumbai’s Mazagaon. The inauguration is going to be done this month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
