1. Legal age of marriage for girls raised to 21 years

Bringing it at par with men, the minimum age of women for marrying in India has been raised from 18 years to 21 years. The Union Cabinet cleared the proposal for this and the centre will also amend the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, Special Marriage Act, and Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 according to the proposal.

Amid the fear of the Omicron variant, Mumbai police have confirmed that Section 144 will be imposed in the city till December 31, 2021, to curb the spread. According to the fresh measures, only 50% of the capacity at a venue will be allowed for any event. Moreover, only double vaccinated people will be allowed to enter places like malls and similar establishments.
