Khadi, the pride of the country, that also emerged as the biggest contributor in the Swadeshi movement, still has the essence of nationalism! One of the great leaders, Mahatma Gandhi, saw the potential in this fabric to bind the whole country together, and amazingly, even now, there are a few variations of this fabric, which are produced at various locations in India but are united by Khadi. Khadi Cotton is one of the preferred choices of people when it comes to sustaining heat and the scorching sun. It is said that the cotton or muslin originated from Mousul in Iraq, and it finds its mention in the works of Marco Polo! But do you know which place produces more than half of muslin? It is none other than West Bengal. Even Mysore is very popular for selling Khadi Cotton through many of its stores.

2. Silk - Bihar, West Bengal, Karnataka, Kashmir

It will not be wrong if we say that Silk sarees are our all-time favourite! The major source of Silk Khadi is Karnataka and Kashmir. However, the yarn is made into Khadi fabric at Malda and Murshidabad, both towns in West Bengal. Tussar silk, another kind of yarn, is obtained from Bhagalpur in Bihar, along with Jharkhand and Malda in West Bengal. Not only this but the Chanderi Silk is also preferred by most of the people, which is found from Madhya Pradesh.

No one can ignore the comfort of hand-weaved woollens! The way it covers you with its warmth is just irreplaceable. Woollen Khadi, also known as 'loyees', can be best seen in the form of Khadi Pashmina, which is found in Kashmir. It is believed that Pashmina is the purest version of Cashmere wool. The best part is that you can get a variety of clothes in Pashminas like Pashmina-khadi shawls, stoles, and drapes, and you need not go to Kashmir for this. The local vendors of Kashmir can often be found putting up stalls in almost every city with Pashmina clothes.
