1. CoronaOven by IIT Roorkee alumnus

Akshay Singhal, an IIT Roorkee alumnus, developed a product named CoronaOven, which uses UV-C light with a wavelength of 253.7 nm to disinfect surfaces, objects, and PPE (personal protective equipment), etc. CoronaOven, created by Singhal's Bengaluru-based startup, Log 9 Materials, protects the articles from infection caused by bacteria and viruses.

2. Kiwi wine brewery by an agricultural engineer

Tage Rita, an agricultural engineer from Arunachal Pradesh's Ziro valley has become India's first Kiwi wine brewer. She has been working to utilize kiwi, found in abundance in her area for the brewery. She also has a boutique winery. For her initiative and innovation, she has been awarded at Women Transforming India Awards conducted by the United Nations and Niti Ayog.

3. Bio-brick building by IIT Hyderabad

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad has created India's first building made of bio-bricks, made of agro-waste. The building has been developed by research scholar Priyabrata Rautray, under the supervision of the Design department, and Professor Deepak John Mathew.

4. Furniture from used items by mechanical engineer

Pramod Susare, who belongs from Ahmednagar, saw a few businesses using recycled materials on his visit to China. Later he thought of doing something like that when he came back to India. He started researching and took the help of YouTube videos and finally thought of taking used tyres and drums to make furniture. Though he started the work in 2018, he received recognition in 2019, and in the pandemic, he also made hospital beds out of the used items.

5. Motorised wheelchair by IIT Madras

Professor Sujatha Srinivasan from the Department of Mechanical Engineering headed a team in the IIT Madras, along with the help of the startup Neomotion, and developed a motorized wheelchair named NeoBolt. The wheelchair needs to get charged for only 4 hours and can go up to 25 km on roads, terrains, and touch areas. Moreover, it has 18 customizable options to best suit the requirements of the users.

6. Strong newspapers bags by a retired Mechanical engineer

When the government banned the usage of plastic bags in 2016, Dhananjay Hegde from Karwar in Karnataka faced difficulty in carrying purchased items. He also realized that non-woven bags had plastic in them, after which he decided to make bags from newspapers. The best part is these bags can carry up to 10 kg of weight and do not even leak. The former mechanical engineer has also made a machine to produce these bags.

7. Low-cost harvester by mechanical engineer

Back in 2016, K Deepak Reddy from Sangareddy district of Telangana discovered that some land was barren for a long time. After he inquired, he learned that it requires machines to remove the stones and other materials to make the land cultivable. This is when he built the low-cost multi-harvester machine that clears the land in just a few hours for farmers and also harvests potatoes, onions, and various root vegetables.

And, the list of innovations goes on!
