Google released a report on March 25 with the title, 'India's determined progress' where it traced out the search trends.

Google mentioned that there was a 140% growth in searches for "work from home jobs" across India from 2019. It was followed by "online courses" with 85% Year-Over-Year growth.

Other most-searched words were "certificate courses" with 50% YoY growth.

However, the second trend observed by Google was "local first". According to the report, people moved towards consuming local news and local events.

The trend also followed by consuming information in the local language. The report suggested that 90% of YouTube users preferred watching content in Indic languages.

The pandemic also led to an increase in the number of digital users, particularly, in tier 2, 3, and 4 cities and areas. This also increased the importance of 3Vs - voice, video, and vernacular.

The company, further, noted a 1.5x YoY increase for "kheti" on YouTube as compared to 2019.

The third major trend observed by Google was an inclination of people towards trying new things online. The major contributor to this was "online doctor consultations" with a 300% growing rate led by Manipur, Bihar and Karnataka.

The demand for connected devices also saw a spike with a 60% YoY increase in "second-hand laptops" searches. Google tracks another behaviour with "how to pay online" searches increased by 60% than in 2019.

The report stated that nearly 70% of parents were ready to pay for the online courses for their children if they found them useful. Moreover, the search for "online stores" also increased with 45% YoY growth compared to flat growth in 2019.
