Assam has come up with a unique way to showcase its richness of bamboo resources and you will be amazed by it. We are talking about the new foot-over bamboo bridge in Guwahati inaugurated on February 14.

Situated at Khanapara, the bridge has been decorated with bamboo. It was inaugurated by Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Such foot-over bridges are also present at Ganeshguri and Kamakhya gate. The bridge welcomes visitors from Northeastern states as a welcome sign has been posted on the bridge which is the entry point to Guwahati.

Bamboo bridge in Guwahati can survive 20 to 30 years

The project carried by the contractor Lalit Kumar Jain was completed in 8 months costing Rs 13 crores. The bridge is expected to remain in a good condition for 20 to 30 years if it is maintained properly.

Apart from Assam, bamboo bridges are present in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. However, Assam tops in bamboo resources as it has got a total of 38 species of Bamboo in the state.
