After the Majestic, Shantinagar, and Koramangala bus stop, women lounges at four more bus stations will have CCTV cameras and security personnel.
The Banglore Metropolitan Transportation Corporation (BMTC) will soon set up women lounges at four more bus stations in the city for the safety of women passengers.
The bus stations are BTM Layout, Jayanagar, Basaveshwara, and Hoskote. Such lounges already exist at Majestic, Shantinagar, and Koramangala bus stations.
Women lounges at four more bus stations to have the following facilities
The civic body will use Nirbhaya funds for the construction of the lounges which will have women security personnel and CCTV cameras.
The lounges will also have toilets, drinking water, charging points, changing room, passenger information boards, and a baby-feeding room.
The BMTC has also launched the ‘Box-it initiative’ along with the NGO DURGA. Under this move, the complaint boxes will be installed at 75 bus stations in the city.
The boxes will help women to write their complaints against harassment, poor lighting and other issues. The NGO will open the boxes once a month and will submit the petitions to the police, BMTC and BBMP.
The NGO is also conducting a 21-day gender sensitization programme under which they have already trained 150 BMTC staff.
