Mahindra Nikam, a farmer from Nashik's Malegaon had purchased newly developed seeds for Rs 40,000 about 70 days ago. After that, he had sowed the seeds in 30 guntas at his 5 acre land in Dabhadi village of Malegaon.

The seeds were tested at the Karnal farm in Haryana after which they have been developed by Syngenta India Ltd in Pune.

Nashik farmer has cultivated colourful cauliflowers rich in Vitamin A

Mahindra is the only farmer in the state of Maharashtra to have grown 'Valentino'- the purple coloured cauliflower, and 'Caritima'- the yellow coloured cauliflower.

These cauliflowers are high in nutrient value as Vitamin A, which is beneficial for eyesight, and skin is higher in them. Also, the Anthocyanins content gives anti-bacterial and anti-cancer protection quality to the hybrid cauliflower.

Investment of Rs 2 lakh yields Rs 16 lakh in return

The total cost incurred by Mahindra for the cultivation of the new type of cauliflowers was Rs 2 lakh. After purchasing the seeds, he had spent the amount on irrigation, fertilisers, and labourers.

Though, the cauliflowers gave him more than double as the 20,000 kg of colourful cauliflowers was sold at Rs 80 per kg amounting to Rs 16 lakh in total.

More such new seeds developed by Karnal farm will be made available for cauliflower cultivating farmers by September 2021.
