Here comes another example of determination and hard work as a Rajasthan carpenter turns into a Wikipedia editor. This 22-year-old has written 1,800 articles and edited around 57,000 articles on the website.

Raju Jangid from Thadiya village of Jodhpur proves that if passion is channelised in the right way, it yields positive results. The idea of writing on Wikipedia had come to his mind when he could not find any information about his village in Hindi. He was in class 8 during this time and decided to do something about it. He started collecting information about his village. This was just the beginning of his journey.

From Carpenter to content curator

Jangid belongs from a family of carpenters. He had left school after completing class 10. In the same year, 2015, he realised that more people like him need information in Hindi. Soon after, he started devoting his time to writing and editing on Wikipedia in the language he always loved, Hindi. However, he appeared for private exams of Class 12 and then for his BA exam later.

Jangid was also working as a carpenter for 10-12 hours daily. So, he decided to write after working hours. Initially, he began writing on the keypad Samsung phone which had both Hindi and English letters. Though, he never thought that his hard work for the website will be noticed by the company. To his fortune, it did! In the year 2016, Wikipedia gifted him a laptop and free internet connection.

Currently, Jangid is working for Wiki Swastha, a special project of Wikipedia. He writes health-related articles for this project. He also writes for WikiCricket Project as Cricket is his favourite game. Till now, he has written 700 articles on Cricket as there are a very few of them in the Hindi language. Apart from this, he also keeps on participating in conventions of Wikipedia in India.

Wikipedia, which is an online encyclopedia, gives people an option of editing where anyone can update information according to their knowledge.
