As the most tragic year comes to an end, it's also important to remember these heartwarming things Mumbaikars did in 2020!

Who thought the city that never stops would abruptly stop one day? The Coronavirus pandemic, however, made all uncommon things possible and Mumbai was not untouched by it. On contrary to the popular "Mumbai never sleeps" phrase, the city remained closed for months. Though, the time was hard mostly for the ones who did not have a roof above their heads. It was only for the heartwarming things Mumbaikars did in 2020 for the unfortunates one which hints that even if the bad times continue the next year, Mumbaikars will contribute every bit to provide them with means of living.

Team 'Khana Chahiye' distributed 22 lakhs meals

A group of young people in Mumbai initiated 'Khana Chahiye' in March to help migrants and stranded workers. They started with 1,200 meals on the Western Express Highway and expanded to other routes such as the Eastern Express Highway, Link Road, and SV Road. Ultimately, they distributed 22 lakh meals to people across Mumbai.

Cab driver helped stranded people reach home

Vidya Shelke, a cab driver in Mumbai, had lost her job during the lockdown. However, she started her taxi service for the disabled, elderly women, and needy people. She patrolled around Mumbai’s Mulund area during the initial months of lockdown to help them. She dropped more than 150 stranded people home with her taxi service.

IIT graduate in Mumbai helped farmers earn 30% more in Lockdown

When the earnings of the farmers started declining during the lockdown, Vikas Jha, an IIT Bombay graduate, developed a low-cost innovative machine called the 'Subjee Cooler'. The device helped the marginalized farmers get access to cold storage facilities.

Andheri Gurudwara distributed free daily meals in Lockdown

The Gurudwara Sachkhand Darbar in Andheri was always known for its langar that feeds 2,000. However, after the lockdown, the management started cooking and serving meals to those who needed food twice a day. The volunteers from the Gurudwara used to drive around the city to distribute rotis, daal, and rice.

People dressed up as cartoon characters to distribute books

A group of people from Sion Friend Circle Foundation dressed up as cartoon characters to distribute books to underprivileged children. Realising that education was amongst the most hit sectors by the pandemic, the people made sure that children do not stop learning.
