Mumbai provides the highest quality of life: IIT Bombay survey!

According to the IIT Bombay survey, Mumbai topped for the quality of life it provides to people, followed closely by Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. Patna remained in the last position.

Development, both economic and social, is an important parameter to determine the progress in the cities. With the same motive, the IIT Bombay survey has tried to study the quality of cities to analyze the urban quality of life index. The study was conducted in various cities on seven factors where Patna ranked the lowest position in five of them.

According to the IIT Bombay survey, Mumbai topped for the quality of life it provides to people, followed closely by Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai. Patna remained in the last position. The capital city of Bihar also stood at the bottom with 346 in the rate of unemployment for women. The rate is four times more than the urban average of 73. The city also lacks in providing basic facilities as only 36% of urban households in Patna have the access to tap water.

Mumbai and Kolkata, along with Chennai being in the top three positions, have exceeded the gender parity index. On the other hand, cities like Delhi, Indore, Jaipur, and Patna remained below average. The study also showed that Jaipur has the highest crime rate against women. Chennai, however, has the lowest in the country.

As far as the gap in literacy rate among men and women is concerned, it is the widest in Jaipur with 13.2%. But, the gap is lowest in Kolkata with 5.4%. Pune was recorded as a city with the highest literacy rate at 91%. As a matter of surprise, the literacy rate is lowest in Hyderabad at 83%. Overall, Mumbai is concluded to be a city that provides the best quality of life in the country.
