Going green: Lonavala railway station installs solar power

Going green at one of the most popular tourist destinations near the city, the Lonavala railway station is all set to get a solar makeover. The Central Railway, as announced earlier this week, is planning to set up solar panels on the rooftop of two platforms. Considering the fact, Lonavala is surrounded by the green cover, there's no better news than the Lonavala railway station installing solar power.

As per Central Railway, 68,400 (kilowatt-hour) Kwh of energy will be harnessed by these solar panels annually, saving the station a considerable amount in power bills. The station also has two solar trees fitted with LEDs, which are powered by a solar panel. This will help in illuminating the garden and the station after dark.

Apart from Lonavala station, the adjoining railway premises, such as the yard at the Mumbai-end will also run on clean and green energy, as rooftop-type solar panels and inverter batteries have been installed at these locations. The Khandala railway station is also getting solar panels installed on one of the level crossing gates.

We hope more railway stations install solar power, more stations will opt for cleaner and greener energy.
